Chennai Vizha 2023
The Department of Tourism, Government of Tamil Nadu along with the Tamil Nadu
Corporation for Development of Women hosted the First ever Chennai Vizha 2023 –
International Handicrafts, Handlooms, Culture and Food Festival from 29th
April
2023
to 21st May 2023 for a period of 23 days. The Chennai Vizha 2023 was
inaugurated on
the 28th of April 2023 by the Hon’ble Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports
Development, Thiru. Udhayanidhi Stalin. The exhibition constituted of
different
zones namely Tamil Nadu Zone, National Zone, SARAS Zone, International Zone,
Food
zone and Kids Entertainment Zone with a total of 311 stalls. The
exhibition
gathered
23 International stalls from 8 countries namely, Bangladesh,
Bhutan,
Kyrgyzstan,
Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and 89 National
stalls
from 19
states of India. The Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women
combined their
annual event “SARAS Mela” by showcasing various native handcrafted products in
the
Chennai Vizha 2023. The SARAS Zone gathered 150+ artisans in 75 stalls. The Food
zone showcased various cuisines of the nation taking up 40 food stalls.
The highlight of the exhibition was the everyday Cultural performances performed
by
the artisans from the Department of Art and Culture, South Zone. The cultural
performances included the Tamil Nadu folk performances and other state
performances
like Kathakali, Bhangra, Yetchagana etc. The exhibition was open to public from
11
am to 10 pm every day.
